Mana Maori Media

The Mana Group

Mana Maori Media Ltd and Mana Productions Ltd are private companies headed by Derek Tini Fox.

The companies were launched in response to a lack of mainstream media commitment and expertise in providing an adequate coverage of Maori activities, interests, education, news and current affairs.

We believe that the New Zealand public should have easy access to a reliable, professional supply of news and information about things Maori.

Our aim is that through our programmes, stories, images and services, more and more New Zealanders will come to understand, be comfortable with and have a natural pride in New Zealand’s taha Maori.

Together, the two companies have been acknowledged as the pre-eminent professional Maori media organisations.

Mana has more than 20 years extensive experience in communicating with Maori audiences, utilising radio, television, print and the web.

Mana Maori Media Ltd

Mana Maori Media Ltd was set up in 1989 and launched the Mana News Service.  For more than 15 years this service provided news and current affairs programmes to:

- Radio New Zealand’s Good Morning New Zealand show

- Radio New Zealand’s Checkpoint programme, and

- The network of iwi stations

In addition radio programmes have also been produced for a number of other companies and organisations such as the Electoral office and Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission.

Mana Maori Media Ltd has also worked with Te Puni Kokiri’s Business Development Group to produce a series of radio programmes featuring Business Facilitation Service clients.

In 2010 Mana Maori Media was successful in securing the contract to produce Kokiri magazine on behalf of Te Puni Kokiri.  Mana managed the production of this 48 page magazine for two and a half years, with a print run of 25,000 copies per issue. After a number of staff changes and a new CEO at Te Puni Kokiri they decided to take the magazine back in house from July 2013.
