Welcome to the Mana Kids language activity section. This month's (April 2005) theme is money.

To make your own kete (basket) filled with lots of maori money click on each of the following images below - this will open a new window with a picture to be printed out. Print this picture (file/print), then follow the instructions further down.
Here is a tip for the money questions. Heneti is cents and tara is dollars. Have fun.
After you have made your kete and maori money try answering the maori language money questions.

Instructions
(2) - Print out all the money (cutout pictures one, two and three).
(2) - Print out all the kete (part A & B) and Maori Money, and colour them in.
(3) - Sticky tape or glue the bottom and edges of the kete together, leaving the top open.
Maori Language - questions with money
(1) Hemi went to the shop and bought a muesli bar for whitu tekau heneti, a drink for tahi tara wha tekau heneti, and a pie for rua tara rua tekau heneti.
How much did he spend?
(2) Reta wants to hire some videos. Help Reta decide what would be the cheapest deal.
Option one has:
- Two new releases for tekau ma rua tara.
- A bag of popcorn for toru tara rua tekau ma rima heneti.
- A bottle of cola for rua tara rima tekau ma rima heneti.
Option 2 has:
- Four older movies for wha tara each.
- A bag of sweets for rua tara.
Which is the cheapest option?
(3) Jamie has rua tekau ma tahi tara in his bank account. He goes to the movies and uses eftpos to withdrawl money from his account to buy a ticket for tekau tara, and some popcorn for wha tara rima tekau heneti. Jamie meets his friend Rick who repays back a loan to Jamie. Rick gives Jamie ono tekau tara. After the movies, Jamie spends some of the money Rick gave him on takeaways. The takeaways come to tekau ma tahi tara. Jamie the deposits what he has left over from the money Rick gave him.
How much is in Jamie's bank account?
(4) Sue collects stamps. Her collection has:
- Rua worth tekau ma rua tara.
- Iwa worth tahi tara.
- Ono worth whitu tara.
- Tahi worth kotahi rau tara.
Pita collects game cards. His collection has:
- Waru worth rima tekau heneti.
- Rua worth tekau ma rima tara.
- Tekau worth tahi tara.
- Toru worth toru tekau tara.
